Health Promoting School

On 6th March '08 we had a very special celebration. Presentation Primary School officially became a Health Promoting School. For two years we have been working very hard to achieve this status by ensuring that we all have healthy lunches, do regular exercise, recycle, re-use and very importantly have a happy and healthy mind.
In the weeks running up to the award ceremony, the health promoting committee were very busy preparing for the big day. Our parent’s representatives Breda O’Keefe & Liz Daly worked very hard and gave us great assistance. Kathrine Keane designed a beautiful poster entitled “Our Recipe for Healthy Living”.

It displayed photos of all the hard work we’ve been doing over the past two years; our Healthy Eating Day last year, our playground games, our GAA, hockey teams, our composting, recycling and lots, lots more.
When the big day arrived we were so excited. Our committee members, Aoiffe Llwellyn and Estefanie Hanley from 5th class with Sarah Eason and Clodagh Freyne from 6th class came along with our two parents representatives Breda O’Keefe and Liz Daly and the school co-ordinators Miss Hayes and Miss Cummins to Mallow GAA complex to receive this fantastic award. It was a hive of activity when they arrived. They each had their own school stand where they displayed our very colourful poster, our community and school folder, which showed all the brilliant things we have done in Presentation with our local community, like working with our local firemen, gardaí, dental nurse etc.

There also had two baskets of various objects and foods. One of which helps people have a happy and healthy life and the other which is not so healthy!!! To show people which would be the best choice. After our stand was set up, they were free to visit other stands from North Cork and swap stories of how they achieved their award. There were lots of photographers and newspaper journalists present so they also got plenty of photos taken for the Corkman and Avondhu.
After lunch, (healthy of course!) they were addressed by members of the HSE who congratulated them on their efforts and presented them with a plaque to put at the entrance of our school and a framed certificate for the hall.
It was an excellent day and we all look forward to keeping up our healthy eating and exercise habits.
